it is time consuming and distracting, not just for you but everyone around you. and no its not some religious ceremony. thats why some women choose to breast feed in public and some women would prefer not too. the end.
It’s only time consuming and distracting for a parent who breastfeeds when they have to stop what they’re doing and try to hunt down a “private” space where it will be possible for them to breastfeed when they’re out in public. And half the time, the space they find isn’t completely private or is somewhere that isn’t conducive to breastfeeding, and they’re stuck trying to balance their baby on their boob and all of your their other crap, all while trying to make sure that no stranger is going to inadvertently catch a glimpse of their bare breast.
If you can just use the comfortable spot where you’re already sitting, feed your baby, and not have to worry about whether or not someone you don’t know is going to have a hissy fit over the presence of a breast, breastfeeding actually isn’t all that time consuming or distracting. It’s entirely possible you can go about your business while breastfeeding and not really pay all that much attention to your baby’s snack time.
As for those around you, it’s been my experience that most people don’t find it distracting, and those who do, do so not because the act of breastfeeding is inherently distracting, but because they apparently can’t control their response to breasts. Usually, unless you happen to turn your head in that direction and happen to see what’s going on, you have no idea there’s a woman around you breastfeeding. And if you do happen to notice, if you’re not the sort of person who gets their panties in a twist over bare breasts, you go back to whatever you’re doing and don’t think twice about it because, really, it’s not that big of a deal.
