If pregnancy is such a scary thing, don’t get pregnant.

Much as I love being self-righteous and condescending, there are times when they prevent you from seeing things clearly or contributing to solutions. Depending on the year, somewhere between 1 in 3 and 1 in 2 pregnancies are unplanned. That’s a whole lotta people who don’t want to get pregnant who still get pregnant. As much as I love the advice, “Just don’t do it,” it’s not really very useful when it comes to real world application.

Now, if you want to talk about ways we can actually decrease unintended pregnancies, since they happen to a lot of (if not most) people, then that’s fine. Being smug and judgmental isn’t productive, though, at least not if your end goal is producing solutions and not just patting yourself on the back for how clever you are for not having gotten pregnant without wanting to.

Oh, and getting pregnant ands having a baby degreases your chances of developing breast cancer. Having an abortion messes with the sensetive tissues in the breast and can increase the chances of getting breast cancer. There are two sides to every coin.

From the American Cancer Society: “But scientific research studies have not found a cause-and-effect relationship between abortion and breast cancer.”

Pregnancy is beautiful and everything worth doing comes with risks.

1) Pregnancy, in this pregnant person’s opinion, is a total pain in the ass. Very little about it has been “beautiful.”

2) If you don’t want a baby, then you probably don’t think it’s worth any of the risks to get one. I actually want a baby, so I’m willing to put up with the challenges and the risks. But would I want to go through this if I weren’t super excited about becoming a parent? Not even remotely.
