A little over a year ago, a massive explosion in the Upper Big Branch mine in West Virginia killed 29 mine workers. According to a newly released independent reportcommissioned by the state, the explosion was caused by lax safety precautions, shoddy equipment, and a corporation that did nothing to fix these issues. The disaster was completely preventable. The corporation responsible for this tragedy was the Massey Energy Company and instead of losing their jobs for what can only be described as gross negligence, many of the executives at Massey are about to get a fresh start at a new company.
You see, Massey Energy was just purchased by Alpha Natura Resources. Alpha announced that several Massey executives will now become Alpha executives.
