Daily chart: who spends the most on the military? America’s defence spending, at nearly $700 billion a year, is bigger than that of the next 17 countries combined.
This chart actually significantly understates US military spending (probably because of the usual DC accounting tricks), which is well over a trillion dollars per year. Beyond total spending and spending as percentage of GDP, military spending per capita would also be a useful number to include in this comparison.
