Text reads: Which terms do you think are more appropriate “African American” or “black people”? I’ve seen a couple of discussions about “black people” being a better choice because “African Americans” implies African heritage and ignores citizenship status; however it’s also hailed as the more PC term. Thoughts?

If a Black person prefers African American, you should call them African American. If an African American person wants to be called Black, you should call them Black. I personally use Black and feel that African American is a very generational term. However, there are plenty of Black people who prefer African American. We are not a monolith. We are individuals. Use either until someone asks you to use something else.

I prefer to use the term African.  mostly since I throw off any belief that I could be American cause they stole my family and are still holding my dna hostage.  No American Holidays, Names or Traditions in this African Family. and no I do not have an american name - because I am not American.
