“African American, Native American and Latino students in Portland Public Schools continue to be suspended or expelled at higher rates than their white and Asian peers, according to data presented to the school board this week… The differences between races is still stark. By comparing the discipline rates for minority students with their white peers, data showed African American students in the district were 4.1 times more likely to be suspended or expelled than whites in 2011-12. The rates were also higher for Native Americans (2.1) and Latinos (1.6) but lower for Asians (0.6).”
