“African Americans throughout the history of the United States have been told in one fashion or another that we do not belong here or there. America’s tragic history of racism and the psychosis of white supremacy has always meant that African Americans have had to work harder and longer — always conscious of the fact that we represent an entire race of people wherever we go and in whatever we do. Now, the president of the United States, a man who has been disrespected in unprecedented ways — being yelled at as a liar in a joint session of Congress — had to send his personal lawyer to Hawaii at his own expense to get a special waver of Hawaiian state law so that he can release a long-form birth certificate to the nation. This, after he has already released a legal official document from the state that certifies his birth, is insulting.”

vruz: I think Obama made a mistake delivering the “proof” himself. He shouldn’t have lowered himself to the level of the idiots speaking to them directly. He should have asked the vicepresident (and president of the senate), the secretary of the state department, the chief justice of the supreme court, and the speaker of the house to hold a press conference to deliver the papers and put the idiots to shame beyond doubt.  and then obama could lecture them on what democracy actually means. (via vruz)

Hmm… While I see the value in “taking the high road”, we have to consider that he’s been taking the high road on this issue for 3-4 years, and that hasn’t helped. And I’m not too comfortable with the idea that the POTUS needs some trusted White people to “vouch” him.  That’s equally insulting.

But racists are racist, so it really wouldn’t matter who presented the facts anyway.
