Do you know how many people had stories about how they walked or ran past the bomb and missed being caught up in the explosion by minutes or even seconds? Dozens. One guy discussed how a woman getting her high heel caught in a metal grate kept him from being caught in the blast, and the Chinese grad student who was killed had the misfortune of just walking by at the same moment the bomb went off.

What probably happened here is that this girl got lucky. She walked away at the right moment, and it saved her life.

It’s worth noting that the blast from a homemade bomb isn’t exactly even. A runner several feet of way was hit by shrapnel—even while others closer were unscathed—and the Martin Richard’s older brother, who was feet away from his brother who died when the explosion happened, managed to escape the whole thing without serious injury all because of a tree. You can’t draw a boundary around the explosion and say “everyone x feet away should have experienced this, everyone at y feet should have experienced that,” etc. That’s not how it works.

I don’t even know how this is supposed to make sense. A picture of a girl standing near Tsarnaev as he puts the bomb in place is supposed to be evidence that Tsarnaev didn’t do it? That’s ridiculous.
