Well, you’re in luck, because not only am I a premed student, but I had to have an ectopic pregnancy removed!

An ectopic pregnancy implants outside the uterus, usually in the fallopean tubes. The fetus cannot come to term there, and will only grow until the location ruptures, causing the mother to bleed out and die. If she survives, she will lose her fertility. You ABSOLUTELY need an abortion in this situation- there is no way for the fetus to come to term, and if it is allowed to continue to grow, the mother will be killed or maimed.

Eclampsia (not preeclampsia, which is what you are thinking of) is seizures and coma that happen during pregnancy but are not due to preexisting or organic brain disorders. Pre-eclampsia and eclampsia are collectively called Hypertensive disorder of pregnancy and toxemia of pregnancy. Usually, there is pregnancy-induced hypertension and proteinuria beforehand, but it is not always caused by these conditions. Like an ectopic pregnancy, the only cure is to end the pregnancy, through premature birth or abortion.

Are you fucking kidding me? There’s no need for an abortion in an ectopic pregnancy? Wow.
