My daughter could be looking at a class size of 35 students next year. An hour shorter school day. No art, music, or physical education. No gifted program (which she currently participates in and enjoys). Possibly no bussing. The high school would be losing some Advanced Placement courses and electives.
Milford schools have lost $4 million in state funding, so this levy was not to increase anything but only to maintain current standards.
Another piece of shit luck is that we are currently not in a position to think of moving, and we certainly can’t afford a private school for Sylvia. I would consider homeschooling, but I feel like it’s important for her to be in a school setting with other students and to learn from people besides me.
Fuck this state and this town and every selfish and/or conservative piece of shit that votes against education.
In my area, they’ve just had furlough days out the wazoo (plus lots of layoffs.) Every day I come home from work at lunch, and there’s half a dozen kids running around the apartment complex and park behind our place or a school bus dropping kids off in the neighborhood. Everyone I work with, their kids have constant half days. It’s ridiculous. They do half days because, apparently, a half day still counts as a day of instruction. W. T. F.
