(a tiny selection of bad things that i’m aware of because of where i live. there are doubtless a number of other very bad things that happened last night.)
- in colorado, prop 65 passed, amending our state constitution with some non-binding language about how federal representatives from colorado should maybe think about doing something about campaign finance reform. that’s right, a totally symbolic and contentless amendment to the constitution that people voted for only because they thought it was taking a stand against citizens united. which is a federal issue. and this is a state proposition. that is now cluttering up our constitution. ugh.
- in california, prop 34 would have repealed the death penalty in the state. it did not pass. this is awful.
- in los angeles, voters passed measure B, which requires actors in porn filmed in the county to wear condoms. this is not something the adult actors union wanted or supported and they believe it will be detrimental to, rather than protective of, their health. even the la times thinks this is more likely to drive dangerous behavior underground, unregulated, and with more danger for actors.
so, boo to all of that.
