If we want to talk about intersectionality: this sixteen year old black girl was BENCHED in order to “slim down” before she could compete. Not only is she SIXTEEN, but she’s clearly not “chubby” by ANYONE’S standards. Add to that she’s still growing, from Chicago, and African-American, and I’m smelling some serious asshattery.

This girl is the #1 ranked junior girls tennis player in the world. Not in the US, the world. She’s the current Australian Open juniors champ and a Wimbledon doubles champ. The USTA is evidently less interest in fostering one of the most promising young players in the country and more interested in trying to exploit their financial leverage over a teenage woman who has repeatedly excelled on the court to fat shame her.
