“Berry, 22, a popular running back, was with a group of other football players when they first encountered Wyche outside a campus recreation center on March 25, 2010. Tensions between the pair had been sparked earlier in the day, when Wyche argued with Berry’s girlfriend, Regina Johnson, who worked for a campus golf cart shuttle service system. Witnesses told police that Wyche threw a cookie or smashed a cookie in the woman’s face.
They confronted each other outside the rec center, and circled each other in fighting stances before brawling. Wyche, witnesses said, broke away toward the building. Several witnesses said Berry ran after him.
A key prosecution witness, student Chidinma Orj, told police that she saw Wyche fish a pair of scissors out of a backpack, break them apart and run back toward Berry to re-engage him. “He was just saying stuff like, ‘I’m a get him,’ ” she recalled.
Wyche felled the unarmed Berry with a fatal thrust to the heart. Wyche’s defense attorney argued that his client was acting in self-defense as he was ganged up on by a group of football players. But prosecutors argue that Wyche instigated the fatal episode by re-engaging with Berry.”

The judge determined “stand your ground” does not apply here, because “Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Milton Hirsch ruled that Wyche failed to show that he reasonably believed his life was in danger when he stabbed Berry, so the Stand Your Ground law does not apply.” How does Zimmerman get off and this guy doesn’t? I don’t understand.
